Artist's Description

American Bison (Buffalo) on the winter prarie.

The American bison is the largest land animal in North America. Males can stand six feet from hoof to shoulder and weigh between 1000-2000 pounds. Females are around five feet tall and weigh between 800-1000 pounds. The American bison live on plains, prairies and river valleys. They are grazers, eating grasses, sedges, some berries. I am attracted to these monumental 'beasts' for a number of reasons: the way they were hunted almost to extinction and also for their somewhat gentle behavior in spite of their size.

The original painting if for sale. It is rendered in oil on canvas, a square format (24 x 24 inches)
